"Alternatives to Vivisection", written by Colin Smith, offers suggestions for alternatives to animal testing and vivisection in the field of medicine. Smith argues that although vivisection has helped our understanding of medicine in the past, there are plenty of alternatives to animal testing.

Published by the SSPV and withdrawn May 1974.

A leaflet announcing a joint prize fund (the Lawson Tait Memorial Trust), organised by the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection and the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Vivisection, for a prize of £3000 to be awarded to scientific research which avoids the use of experimenting on animals.

Pamphlet titled "Medical Opinions Against Vivisection" is a reprint of "Recent Medical Opinions Against Vivisection, 1949" (Coll-1618/2/1/3/58)

An advertisment, originally taken from The Scotsman, 18th November 1961, detailing a fund, named the Lawson Tait Memorial Trust, of £5000 to stimulate new developments in medical research without using living animals. Those with an interest in applying for the funding must contact Harvey Metcalfe.
